WTF? Wine Tasting for LA
Wine tastings tend to be one of the most ageist, pretentious, and exclusionary sort of events. Yet, they involve spitting, consuming alcohol, meditating on the scent of cat pee, and swirling pretty, colored liquids around. There is certainly nothing inherently snooty about wine and Wine Tasting for LA recognizes that if you like wine, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy it, learn about it, and even buy it a price that is affordable. Young people are now huge consumers of wine (which you don’t have to tell us because it’s the first thing we bring to a party, order at dinner, or grab at the grocery store), but hardly anyone markets wine with us in mind. It seems like there is “good” wine, which young people are expected to know nothing about, and “cheap” wine, for us ignorant 20 and30-somethings, bums, and broke alcoholics.
Let’s admit it: Although we all love that 2 Buck Chuck gave us a much more respectable option than a jug of Carlo Rossi, we’re still not enamored by it and no one appreciates the hangover. We would all be willing to pitch in a few more dollars if we knew what we were getting and had the vocabulary to describe what kind of wine we’re looking for. WTF LA promises to be a place where young people can taste different wines, learn about them in a welcoming environment, actually understand what they’re looking for when they swirl their Pinot Grigio around, and maybe even have a chance to appreciate the humor in sticking their noses in their glasses. WTF LA travels around LA to provide tastings that are affordable, enjoyable, and specifically geared towards the upcoming generation of wine consumers. Thanks to this new tasting biz with the clever acronym, merlot-red is about to become the new pink.
