Bruce Conner + A MOVIE x 2
To commemorate Bruce Conner’s contribution to film and art, UCLA Film & Television Archive and REDCAT present Bruce Conner’s Explosive Cinema in two parts. Those who were lucky enough to see Conner’s 2007 exhibition at Michael Kohn Gallery will be undoubtedly floored by this two night survey and memorial of Conner’s fifty year career in film.
Bruce Conner became involved with the San Francisco’s Beat community after moving to the city in 1957. He used found materials to create assemblage sculptures and collages, which soon gave him international recognition. Conner utilized the same principles in his film making by splicing reels of found footage, such as news reels, commercials, and B-movies. Now his films A MOVIE and CROSSROADS are cornerstones in the experimental film pantheon.
To make the deal sweet, Dennis Hopper, long time friend and co-conspirator, will be present both nights as well as Jean Cooper, guest of honor.
