Art of the Game

You never know who you’ll find on craigslist.

For example, when FineArtsLA founder Christian M. Chensvold went on the popular bulletin-board website looking for a tennis partner, little did he know he’d find David Thorne, an artist who currently has a video installation showing at the Tate Modern in London.

Chensvold (l) and Thorne (r) are shown here after a grueling three-and-a-half hour death match that ended in a tie.

Says Thorne of his work at the Tate, “We were asked to exhibit the project at the Tate after the curators saw the work last summer in the exhibition Documenta XII in Kassel Germany. This project is a one-time collaboration between the five artists you see listed in the Tate link.

“Most of my work is in collaboration with my wife, Julia Meltzer. Our most recent work — 2 small video installations produced with a young Syrian performer, Rami Farah — was exhibited in the 2008 Whitney Biennial.”
