A Month of MOPLA
The annual Month of Photography Los Angeles has finally found itself upon all us Angeleno shutterbugs. Stretching through the entire month of April, MOPLA, as it is known, is a tremendous platform for some of the most astounding talent in the photography world that exists right in our own backyard.
Photographers of all sorts – fine art, photo journalistic, commercial photographers, and those of the rock star variety – will come together to celebrate and explore the creative, artistic medium that is photography. MOPLA is discriminating in all the right ways with exhibits focusing on such greats as Douglas Kirkland, fashion photographers Markus Klinko and Indrani, and featuring such emerging names as Nick Zinner and Amanda Friedman, both of whom are participating in Pro’Jekt LA. The awe inspiring Pro’Jekt LA is a four-part series of outdoor projections that range from Dark Side: The Anatomy and Topography of Los Angeles at Night to Falling Down Empty: A Rock-n- Roll Documentary. They’ve left out that one ubiquitous variety of photographer, though – the paparazzo.
MOPLA brings to the City of Angels a dynamic collection of events designed to stimulate and inspire the photography enthusiast, professional, collector, and the just plain curious. With sponsorships by some of the leading LA cultural institutions including Pacific Design Center and the Getty Museum to name a few, this 30 day extravaganza is not to be missed.
